Kevin Davey started training back in '76 having seen
his first 'X' certificate film, 'Enter The Dragon'.
Within a fortnight he had enrolled in a local Karate
club - and here we are, over quarter of a century later,
and he's still training in, and teaching Karate (amongst
other disciplines).
His first kick/punch style was Bujinkai - a widespread
Karate system throughout the South-West of England in
the '70s, '80s and early '90s, under Chief Instuctor
Sensei John Smith, 7th Dan.
Five years after he took up the Martial-arts, he was
introduced to a hybrid of Aikido and Ju-Jitsu by Sensei
Jim McVale, 4th Dan. Due to conflicting training-nights,
Kevin left the Bujinkai style, but wanting to keep his
hand in (and his feet - so to speak), he started training
in another dojo - Zen-Shin Karate, under Chief Instructor
Sensei John Alexander, 8th Dan.
Always striving to better himself, and wanting to evolve
into as complete-a-martial-artist has he could be, Kevin
was constantly attending seminars literally all over
the country (,and still does), aswell as visiting and
training at other Dojo's.
Wanting to combine the knowledge he was attaining from
these different areas into one practical format, he
decided back in 1989 and at the rank of 2nd Dan, to
start his own Dojo. Later, in 1991, he founded the Ashiita-kai
Freestyle Martial-arts System - a style which included
all the best elements of Karate, Ju-jitsu, Kickboxing
and Judo. He was assessed and graded by a panel from
the U.M.A. (United Martial-Arts Federation) on his own
syllabus, and was awarded his 3rd. Dan.
Well, that was over a decade ago, and since then he
has been selected for the G.B. Karate Squad on 3 occassions
and has even fought for his country in the U.S.A.
Kevin now holds a 4th. Dan, and teaches regularly in
Karate/Kickboxing, Submission Fighting, and Self-defence.
He also offers the option of private tuition for those
who find it awkward or uncomfortable attending public-classes. |
